Meet Alwyn

Alwyn, the owner of Purple Orchid Salon has only ever wanted to be a hairstylist, she still plays with her dolls' hair weekly (her mannequins) She has always loved making people feel beautiful and doing hair allows her that privilege. Using shapes and color to add dimension to a guests' hair is what really fuels her fire. This fire allowed her to win "Behind The Chair" Updo/Braid and Raw Talent competition 2013.

She is fiercely passionate about continuing to learn her craft and teach all that she knows, so she became an educator for Schwarzkopf Professional and teaches color and styling to other salons/stylists in the Northeast region. This enables her to learn from all her students as she is teaching them!

Alwyn is known for her incredible ability to paint, design and shape her clients' hair to reflect their true personality. Knowing that each and every guest has a vision for themselves, she can come up with a plan that will work for the specific lifestyle and budget of her guest.

Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, she moved to New York and started her career in the beauty business in 1994, since then she married her sweetheart and has 3 school aged kids (and 2 dogs) After working for a long time at other salons, she was disappointed in the lack of service to her guests and knew she could do much better. So she followed her dream to combine the best of personal style and professional hair care and opened her salon. Her unique experience of both European and North American hair fashion and cultures ensures her clients' experience will be both personal and cutting edge.
